Arusha National Park Day Trip
A full-day trip from Arusha to Arusha National Park, about 32 km from town, combining a game drive with a 2–3 hour walking safari escorted by an armed park ranger.
Arusha National Park lies on the slopes of Mount Meru, only about 32 km from Arusha town, so you spend your day in the park rather than on the road. It is one of the few parks in northern Tanzania where you can step out of the vehicle and walk among wild animals, escorted by an armed park ranger. Expect giraffe, buffalo, zebra and warthog on the open glades, black-and-white colobus and blue monkeys in the forest, and flamingos on the Momella Lakes when they are in.

Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel in Arusha at around 08:00. The drive to the park takes less than an hour. Inside, a game drive takes you through the forest around Ngurdoto Crater, with a stop at a rim viewpoint, and on to the Momella Lakes, where each lake takes on a different colour from the algae it holds.
At the start of the trail you meet your armed park ranger, who leads the walk and explains how to behave around wild animals. On foot you move quietly across open grassland and along the forest edge where buffalo, giraffe, zebra and warthog graze, while your ranger points out tracks, plants and birds you would miss from a vehicle. A popular route leads to Tululusia Waterfall on the slopes of Mount Meru. Walks usually last about two to three hours, depending on the route and your pace.
Lunch is a picnic at one of the park's picnic sites. Afterwards there is time for a final game drive before you head back to your hotel in Arusha in the late afternoon.
