A Night in a Safari Camp
Start/End: Your Zanzibar Hotel·2 Days / 1 Night·Mid-Range Camp·Game Drives + Boat Safari

A short safari from Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park, the former northern Selous: game drives, a boat safari on the Rufiji River, a night in a mid-range camp and, if you like, a guided walk in the bush the next morning.

Staying overnight lets you see the park at its best times, the late afternoon and the early morning, and hear the bush at night. Nyerere covers about 30,893 square kilometres, and its river, lakes and palm groves are very different from the plains of the north.

On the second morning you can choose a walking safari with an armed ranger, at extra cost, before you fly back to Zanzibar.

Questions Travellers Ask

How long is the flight from Zanzibar to Nyerere?

About an hour each way in a light aircraft. The exact times are set by the airline, and we send them to you when we confirm your booking.

Can we do a walking safari?

Yes, on the second morning, with an armed park ranger and your guide, at extra cost: park walking and ranger fees are about 47 US dollars per person. Walks depend on the camp and the conditions on the day.

What animals can we see?

Hippos and crocodiles are common along the Rufiji River, with many water birds. Giraffes, impalas, buffalo and elephants are often seen, and lions and African wild dogs sometimes. Wild animals move freely, so no sighting can be guaranteed.

When is the best time to go?

June to October is the dry season, when animals gather near the water. Many camps close in about April and May because of the rain.

Is the price per person or per group?

Per person, for the number of people travelling together. For example, a group of four pays $1,180 per person, $4,720 in total.
