Pick-up from hotel at 7:30 am. 2-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its diverse landscape, ancient baobab trees, and one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Tanzania. Game drive through the park following reported sightings, mostly tracking predators (lion, cheetah, leopard). Lunch at the Tarangire River picnic site with river and animal views. Game drive continues after lunch, exiting the park around 5:30 pm.

Early breakfast at 6:00 am, then to the Ngorongoro viewpoint for the crater view. Descent into the crater to search for black rhino (the hardest animal to spot in the crater). The crater is self-sustaining for its animal population, so they don't migrate out. After lunch, game drive and ascent out of the crater, then transfer to accommodation in Arusha.

After breakfast you climb through the green Ngorongoro highlands and drop down onto the Serengeti plains. Once through the park gate, the game drive begins. With a picnic lunch on board, you can keep exploring until late afternoon, when you reach your camp in the Serengeti.

A full day in the central Serengeti, where water and grazing are available all year, so resident wildlife stays through every season. Your guide will search the plains, rivers and rocky kopjes for lions, leopards and cheetahs, along with giraffe, elephant, hippo and large herds of grazers. You spend the night in the Serengeti again or, depending on the season, drive towards Ngorongoro in the late afternoon.

An early start takes you down into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best places in Tanzania to see black rhino. On the open crater floor you can also expect lion, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hyena and flamingos on the soda lake. After a picnic lunch you climb out of the crater and drive back to Arusha, Moshi or the airport. A visit to a Maasai village can be added on the way for an extra fee.

After breakfast you climb up through the Ngorongoro highlands and drop down onto the open plains of the Serengeti. The game drive begins as soon as you enter the park and continues on the way to camp. Your crew pitches the tents at a public campsite in the central Serengeti, and the cook prepares dinner while the sun goes down.

A full day in the central Serengeti around the Seronera valley, where water and grazing are available all year, so resident wildlife stays through every season. Your guide will look for lions, leopards and cheetahs, as well as elephant, giraffe, hippo and large herds of grazers. Lunch is a packed lunch on the plains, and you return to the same campsite for the night.

A last morning game drive in the Serengeti, then you drive back east and climb onto the Ngorongoro highlands. The scenery changes from open savannah to cool forest, often wrapped in mist. You camp near the rim of the crater, ready for an early start. Nights up here are cold, so keep warm layers close.

Early breakfast and check-out, then down into the Ngorongoro Crater at first light, when the animals are most active. On a morning game drive you look for black rhino, lion, elephant, hyena, buffalo and flamingos on the soda lake. Around midday you climb out of the crater and drive to Arusha Airport (about 3 hours) for the afternoon flight back to Zanzibar, with a packed lunch on the way. The time in the crater depends on the flight schedule on your travel date.

Short drive to Arusha National Park on the slopes of Mount Meru. Momella lakes ringed with flamingos and waterbirds, forested Ngurdoto Crater, grassy glades with giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. No lions in the park, so a guided walking safari on foot with an armed ranger is possible. Kilimanjaro sometimes visible beyond Meru on clear mornings. ~5 hours exploring with a picnic lunch.

Drive southwest (~2 hours) to Lake Manyara National Park below the Rift Valley escarpment. Groundwater forest with baboons and blue monkeys, open floodplain grazed by elephants and buffalo, soda lake with flamingos, pelicans, storks; hippos in spring-fed pools. One of the few places lions sometimes rest in trees. ~5 hours game drive with picnic lunch; afternoon continues toward Tarangire area.

Full day in Tarangire, famous for elephants and ancient baobab trees. In dry season the Tarangire River draws big herds of elephant, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, with lion, leopard, and cheetah in pursuit. Rolling grassland studded with baobabs. Excellent birdlife (bee-eaters, kori bustard). Picnic lunch in park; ~6 hours exploring.

Scenic climb to the Serengeti through Ngorongoro Conservation Area, past Maasai homesteads and grazing herds, with a stop at the crater rim viewpoint. Enter at Naabi Hill Gate, game viewing en route to central Seronera area — prime ground for lion and cheetah, and in season, the wildebeest migration. Arrive camp in afternoon with time for a first drive. Picnic lunch en route.

Early morning game drive in the Serengeti for best light and active predators (lion, leopard, cheetah around Seronera). Turn east toward the highlands, with a possible stop at Olduvai Gorge (early human fossil site). Climb to the cool, forested rim of Ngorongoro Crater. Overnight on the rim, ready for an early descent. Picnic lunch.

Early descent into Ngorongoro Crater. One of the densest wildlife gatherings anywhere — look for black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, and flamingos on the soda lake. Picnic lunch beside the water. Climb out in early afternoon, drive to Arusha (3–4 hours). Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure, or to a hotel for a day room, depending on flight.

This is the longest day of the trip and it is worth it. You climb past the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, cross the Serengeti plains through the central Seronera area, and keep driving north towards the Mara River, game viewing all the way. With stops, expect roughly 8–10 hours on the road. You arrive at a tented camp placed close to where the herds are gathering, and spend the evening by the campfire listening to the bush.

A full day in the north of the Serengeti, a landscape of rolling hills, rocky outcrops and forest along the river. Your guide positions the vehicle along the Mara River where the herds are massing. When the moment comes, thousands of wildebeest and zebra plunge down the banks and swim for the far side while Nile crocodiles wait in the water and lions and hyenas watch from the banks. Crossings can happen at any time of day, so lunch is a picnic out in the field and you stay with the herds.

After an early breakfast you drive back south, game viewing along the way, to the Seronera area of central Serengeti. Its open plains and granite kopjes are some of the best places in Africa to see lion, leopard and cheetah, and there is time in the afternoon to search for them.

You leave the Serengeti early and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, then descend about 600 metres to the crater floor. The open grassland makes animals easy to see: black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo and flamingos on the soda lake. Lunch is a picnic on the crater floor. In the afternoon you climb back up to the rim and drive to your lodge in Karatu.

A drive of under an hour brings you to Lake Manyara National Park, below the steep wall of the Rift Valley escarpment. Its groundwater forest, woodland and lakeshore hold elephants, baboons, hippos and, when conditions are right, flamingos and pelicans. After a picnic lunch you drive back to Arusha, where the trip ends at your hotel or at Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight.

After breakfast you cross the Ngorongoro highlands, past Maasai villages and grazing cattle, and drop down onto the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti ecosystem. The grass here grows on rich volcanic soil, which is why the herds come here to give birth. You game-drive the rest of the way to Ndutu and spend the afternoon among the first herds, arriving at your tented camp in time for sunset.

A full day following the herds. At the peak, usually around February, thousands of calves are born every day, and a newborn can stand and run within minutes. All this new life draws the predators: lion prides, cheetahs, spotted hyenas and jackals hunt the edges of the herds, so your guide will keep you where the action is. Lunch is a picnic out on the plains.

Today you explore the acacia woodland and the shores of Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek, where wildebeest come to drink, flamingos wade in the shallows and giraffe browse among the trees. The woodland edges are good places to look for leopard and for the cheetahs that hunt the open plains. For an unforgettable start to the day, you can add an early-morning hot-air balloon flight at extra cost, depending on availability.

A last early game drive with the herds, when the light is softest and predators are most active. On the Luxury option, your guide then takes you to the Ndutu airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Arusha, which saves the long drive and leaves you the morning on the plains. On the Mid-Range option, you drive back to Arusha across the Ngorongoro highlands, roughly 5–6 hours with a lunch stop, arriving in the late afternoon.

You start the climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai in the early hours with your mountain guide, reaching the crater rim for sunrise after about 5–6 hours of steep climbing on loose ash. After the descent you have breakfast and a rest at camp, visit a nearby Maasai village, and then drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening.

A slow morning on the shores of Lake Natron, the most important breeding ground for East Africa's lesser flamingos, where thousands of birds feed in the shallows. You can also visit the ancient human footprints preserved in volcanic mud near Engare Sero, and spend time in a Maasai village learning about daily life. After an early dinner you go to bed early to rest before the night climb.

At around midnight you set off with your mountain guide to climb Ol Doinyo Lengai, the Maasai "Mountain of God" and the world's only active carbonatite volcano. The path is steep and covered in loose ash, and the ascent takes about 5–6 hours by headlamp, timed to reach the crater rim for sunrise over the Rift Valley. After time at the top you descend carefully back to the vehicle, return to camp to shower, have a meal and rest, then drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening.

After an early breakfast you drive west through the Rift Valley and Karatu to Lake Eyasi, a long soda lake below the Eyasi escarpment, about four hours with stops. A local guide introduces you to the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer peoples in Africa. You walk with them through the bush as they track game, forage for roots, berries and wild honey, and show you how they make and shoot their bows. Later you visit a Datoga family, pastoralists and skilled blacksmiths who turn scrap metal into arrowheads and jewellery. In the late afternoon you drive up to your lodge in the green highlands around Karatu.

After an early breakfast you drive up to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and descend about 600 metres to the crater floor for a game drive. The open grassland makes wildlife easy to see: black rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, hyena and jackal, with flamingos on the soda lake. Lunch is a picnic on the crater floor. In the afternoon you climb out of the crater and drive back to Arusha or straight to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.

After entering the crater, begin an exciting game drive through one of Africa's most wildlife-rich ecosystems. Explore open grasslands, acacia forests, wetlands, and soda lakes that provide habitat for an incredible variety of animals. Enjoy opportunities to spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, black rhinos, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, jackals, and numerous bird species throughout the morning.

Around midday, lunch is served at the Ngoitokitok Springs picnic site, beside a hippo pool on the crater floor. Relax while surrounded by spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife. This is an excellent opportunity to observe hippos and waterbirds while enjoying your meal in one of Africa's most extraordinary settings.

Following lunch, continue exploring different sections of the crater floor. Visit seasonal lakes, marshes, and open plains where wildlife concentrations are often highest. Enjoy outstanding photography opportunities while your professional safari guide shares fascinating insights into the crater's geology, ecology, and wildlife behavior. Around 15:00 you begin the climb back up to the crater rim.

After completing your crater safari, begin the scenic journey back to Arusha. Enjoy beautiful views of the Ngorongoro Highlands and surrounding countryside. Arrive at your hotel, residence, or Kilimanjaro International Airport in the early evening.

At the start of the trail you meet your armed park ranger, who leads the walk and explains how to behave around wild animals. On foot you move quietly across open grassland and along the forest edge where buffalo, giraffe, zebra and warthog graze, while your ranger points out tracks, plants and birds you would miss from a vehicle. A popular route leads to Tululusia Waterfall on the slopes of Mount Meru. Walks usually last about two to three hours, depending on the route and your pace.

Lunch is a picnic at one of the park's picnic sites. Afterwards there is time for a final game drive before you head back to your hotel in Arusha in the late afternoon.

The first game drive starts in the forest, where baboons and monkeys move through the trees and elephants browse in the shade. It then opens onto grassland where giraffe, zebra, buffalo, impala and warthog graze, and down to the hippo pool. Lions here sometimes rest in the branches of trees, a habit the park is known for, although sightings are never guaranteed. Lunch is a packed lunch at one of the park's picnic sites.

After lunch, a second game drive looks for anything you missed in the morning, with time along the lakeshore for birds. In the late afternoon you leave the park and drive back to your hotel in Arusha, arriving in the early evening.

Breakfast and check-out, then drive to Tarangire National Park. Ancient baobabs rise over the savannah, and in the dry season the Tarangire River draws large elephant herds along with zebra, wildebeest and the predators that follow them. Tarangire National Park is well known for its big groups of elephants and the huge amount of giant baobab trees. These trees can live for hundreds of years and are actually a source of water for elephants in the dry season as they have a special technique to draw water from them. The Tarangire River is the only source of water in the dry season, which is why in this season you can see groups of up to 250 elephants next to many more animals!

Serengeti National Park is widely known as the place to go on safari, mainly because of the Great Migration that passes through here. The enormous, stampeding herds are impressive, as are the vast number of predators that live here: over four thousand lions, over 200 cheetahs, a thousand leopards, 3,500 hyenas, and hundreds of wild dogs — and plenty of other beautiful animals, which your guide will be delighted to search for together with you.

The famous Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's seven natural wonders. The crater was formed two million years ago when a vast volcano erupted. The fertile lava has created a unique ecosystem, now home to the highest concentration of animals found anywhere in Africa! Once in the crater, thousands of animals such as lions, zebras, buffalos and black rhinos surround you, and the views are astounding — you won't know where to look!

The last day! Depending on your flight time, you can relax in the lodge a bit longer before heading to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home.

We keep this day completely open, on purpose. Nungwi's water is calm and current-free, so it's an easy place to swim or snorkel without worrying about conditions — the reef just offshore is worth the short swim out. If you want to see more of the island, your guide can arrange a spice tour or a sunset dhow sail, but most guests are happy simply lying in the sun after a long flight, and we never argue with that.

A last full day on the sand — we'd rather you leave Zanzibar wanting one more day than feeling rushed off it. In the evening, pack for the safari: tomorrow's flight leaves early, and the light aircraft take one soft bag of up to 15 kg per person. This is where the trip changes character entirely, and we make sure you're well-rested for it.

An early transfer takes you to Zanzibar Airport for the morning flight to the Serengeti, which usually stops at Arusha and Lake Manyara on the way (direct from July to September). The flight is one of the genuine highlights of the whole itinerary. The turquoise water gives way to an ocean of grass that just keeps going — your first real sense of how big the Serengeti actually is. Your guide will meet you at the airstrip and take you straight into the park. It's worth being honest about what you're in for here: the Serengeti holds one of the densest concentrations of predators anywhere on Earth, including one of Africa's largest lion populations (more than 3,000 across the ecosystem), with cheetahs and leopards moving through the same plains as the zebra, topi, and gazelle they hunt — and depending on when you travel, the wildebeest migration itself, which in the right season is more animals than words can properly explain until you've seen it stretch to the horizon. Your guide will spend the afternoon reading the land with you — vultures circling usually mean something's happened nearby, a lone tree might be hiding a leopard's kill overhead. You settle in at your luxury tented camp as the light goes gold over the plain, which is when this place really shows off.

Your guide will start this day in the Seronera area — the most reliable ground in the entire park for predator sightings, year-round. The kopjes (rocky outcrops scattered through the grass) and the river-line forest give lion and leopard exactly the shade and vantage point they want, and our guides know most of the good spots. After a last game drive, you head east and start climbing out of the plains, through Maasai grazing land that's been used the same way for generations. Then the ground simply stops — that's the only way to describe arriving at the Ngorongoro Crater rim. You're looking into a caldera about 16–19 kilometres across, described by UNESCO as the largest unbroken caldera in the world, left behind when a great volcano collapsed in on itself about 2.5 million years ago. You stay the night at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, built right into the rim from river stone and vine — every room looks straight down into the crater you'll descend into at dawn.

You descend into the crater at first light, when it's coolest and the animals are most active — our guides avoid a late-morning descent whenever they can help it. Because the crater walls keep most wildlife from migrating out, you get one of the most complete ecosystems in Africa in a single day: lion prides that never leave the crater floor, elephant bulls distinctive enough for your guide to point out individually, buffalo herds running into the hundreds, flamingos lining the soda lake in their thousands. It's worth being honest about the black rhino — it's the one animal every guide here is quietly hoping to find for their guests, and it's genuinely the hardest to spot. We can't promise it, but your guide will be looking the whole time. By late morning you climb back out and drive about three hours to Arusha for an afternoon flight back to Zanzibar (we book flights leaving from 16:45), or about three and a half hours to Kilimanjaro International Airport for an evening international flight (from 19:30). If your flight leaves earlier, we recommend adding a night in Arusha.
