Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the questions travellers ask us most, from booking and payment to visas, insurance and health. If your question is not here, send us a message and we reply within 24 hours.
Booking and payment
How do I book a trip?
Send us an enquiry with your dates, group size and interests. We reply within 24 hours with an itinerary and a price. Your booking is confirmed when we receive a 30% deposit.
When do I pay the balance?
The remaining 70% is paid on arrival in Tanzania, before your trip begins.
How can I pay?
The payment methods are listed in section 2 of our Terms & Conditions. Before any bank transfer, please confirm our bank details with Laizer on WhatsApp (+255 745 740 808); we will never ask you by email to pay into a new account.
What if I need to cancel?
The 30% deposit is non-refundable. Cancellations must be sent to us in writing. Our cancellation policy explains the details.
Are the prices per person?
Yes. Prices are per person in US dollars and depend mainly on how many people share the vehicle. Each tour page shows the price for each group size and what is included.
What is included
What is usually included in a safari price?
Park and conservation fees, a private 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof and a professional driver-guide, accommodation and meals as listed in the itinerary, and drinking water. Each tour page has the full list.
What is not included?
International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, drinks other than water and personal expenses, unless the tour page says otherwise.
Can you change an itinerary?
Yes. Every trip on our website can be adjusted, and we also plan trips from scratch.
Before you travel
Do I need a visa for Tanzania?
Most visitors do. You can apply online on the official e-visa website, visa.immigration.go.tz, before you travel; a single-entry visa is also available on arrival at the main airports and borders. The ordinary visa costs 50 US dollars; citizens of the United States and Ireland pay 100 US dollars for a multiple-entry visa. Rules can change, so check the official website before you travel.
How long must my passport be valid?
At least six months after the date you arrive, with at least one blank page. Two blank pages are safer if you also visit Kenya or Zanzibar.
Is travel insurance compulsory?
Yes. Since 1 October 2026, foreign visitors to mainland Tanzania need the government's inbound travel insurance, which costs 44 US dollars per person (children up to 2 free, ages 3 to 17 half price) and covers up to 92 days. You can buy it at inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz or on arrival. If you enter through Zanzibar first, you buy the Zanzibar policy instead; you only need one. We also recommend your own travel insurance that covers medical evacuation.
Do I need a yellow fever certificate?
Only if you arrive from a country with a risk of yellow fever, or spend more than 12 hours in transit at an airport in such a country. Check the current list with your doctor or a travel clinic.
Is there malaria in Tanzania?
Yes, in all areas below about 1,800 metres, including Zanzibar and the safari parks. See your doctor or a travel clinic four to six weeks before you travel about malaria tablets and other vaccinations.
Can I bring plastic bags?
No. Plastic carrier bags are banned in Tanzania and may be taken from you on arrival. Small zip-lock bags for toiletries are allowed.
Can I fly a drone?
Only with permits from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, applied for about a month before you travel, and separate permission from the park. Most visitors leave their drone at home.
On safari and on the mountain
Can children come on safari?
Yes. Many of our trips suit families, and children usually pay less. See our family safari, or ask us to adjust any trip.
I am travelling alone. Is that possible?
Yes. You can book a private trip on your own, or join a group joining safari on fixed dates to share the cost.
How much luggage can I bring?
On road safaris there is plenty of space for a normal suitcase or bag. On small planes, luggage is usually limited to about 15 kg per person in a soft bag.
How much should I tip?
Tips are not included and are always your choice. Our tipping guide has the usual amounts for guides, camp staff and Kilimanjaro crews.
How fit do I need to be for Kilimanjaro?
You do not need climbing experience, but you should be able to walk for several hours a day on several days in a row. The biggest challenge is altitude: talk to your doctor before you travel, and choose a longer route to give your body time to adjust.
Entry rules can change. Always check the official requirements and your own government's travel advice before you travel.
