Start/End: Moshi·7 Days / 6 Nights·Huts·Private Climb

A private 5-day climb of Kilimanjaro on the Marangu route, sleeping in huts at Mandara, Horombo and Kibo, with two hotel nights in Moshi, 7 days in total.

Five Days, Hut to Hut

This is the shortest standard climb on Kilimanjaro: three days up through rainforest, moorland and the high Saddle, a summit night from Kibo Hut, and a day and a half back down the same path. You sleep in simple shared huts with bunk beds, so there are no tents to pitch.

Five days is fast for a mountain of 5,895 metres. It is a sensible choice only for fit walkers who have already been above 4,000 metres recently, for example on Mount Meru, or who cannot take more time off. Everyone else will have a better chance with our 6-day Marangu climb, which adds a rest and acclimatisation day at Horombo.

Questions Climbers Ask

Who is the 5-day Marangu climb for?

Fit walkers who have recently been above about 4,000 metres, for example on Mount Meru, and travellers who cannot take more days off. If this is your first high mountain, our 6-day Marangu climb with a rest day at Horombo is the better choice.

Why do fewer people reach the summit in 5 days?

Your body needs time to adjust to thinner air. Five days gives the least time of any standard climb, so altitude sickness is more likely and more climbers turn back. Every extra day helps.

Can I add a day once I am on the mountain?

Sometimes, if huts and park permits allow, at extra cost for the park fees and crew. It is easier and cheaper to book the 6-day climb from the start.

What are the huts like?

Simple shared huts with bunk beds and mattresses, shared with other climbers, with basic toilets and no showers. We provide a sleeping bag; a liner of your own is a good idea.

What insurance do I need?

Travel insurance that covers trekking up to 6,000 metres and emergency evacuation. Please check the altitude limit in your policy before you book.

How booking works: a 30% deposit confirms your booking, and the balance is paid on arrival in Tanzania, before your trip begins. We reply to every enquiry within 24 hours. Booking terms
