3-Day Nyerere (Selous) Fly-in Safari from Zanzibar
A private 3-day fly-in safari from Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park, the former northern Selous: game drives, a boat safari on the Rufiji River and a walking safari with an armed ranger, with two nights in a mid-range camp.
Three Ways to See the Wild South
Nyerere is Tanzania's largest national park, created in 2019 from the northern Selous Game Reserve. What makes it special is variety: in three days you see the bush from a 4x4, from a small boat among hippos and crocodiles on the Rufiji River and its lakes, and on foot with a ranger, which is not allowed in most northern parks.
Our 2-day trip from Zanzibar fits one boat safari and two game drives. The extra night here gives you time for the walking safari and a fuller day in the park, at a slower pace. Most camps close in about April and May, during the long rains; we confirm availability for your dates.

We collect you from your Zanzibar hotel for the morning flight, about an hour in a light aircraft, to an airstrip in Nyerere. Your guide meets you for a game drive to camp. In the afternoon you go out by boat on the Rufiji River or one of its lakes, among hippos, crocodiles and water birds, until sunset.
Light aircraft usually allow about 15 kg of luggage per person, in a soft bag. Flights can be delayed by the weather or by air traffic; if that happens, we adjust the day.

Questions Travellers Ask
Why three days instead of two?
The extra night adds a walking safari and a fuller day of game drives, so you see the park on foot, by boat and by vehicle without rushing.
Is the walking safari safe?
You walk in a small group behind an armed park ranger who knows the area, keeping a safe distance from large animals. The ranger decides the route and may cancel the walk if conditions are not right.
When is the best time to visit Nyerere?
The dry season, roughly June to October, is best for game viewing. Many camps close in about April and May during the long rains.
How much luggage can I bring?
Light aircraft usually allow about 15 kg per person in a soft bag. Leave the rest at your Zanzibar hotel.
Are park fees included?
Yes. Park fees, flights, game drives, the boat and walking safaris, the camp and meals are included. Tanzania's and Zanzibar's compulsory travel insurance are not.
