10-Day Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar
A private 10-day trip for families and groups of friends: five nights on safari in Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, then a flight to Zanzibar for four nights on the beach, with mid-range lodges and hotels.
Bush to Beach for Families and Friends
The safari comes first, while everyone has the energy for early starts: elephants in Tarangire, a day on the Ngorongoro Crater floor and two nights in the middle of the Serengeti. Then, instead of driving all the way back, you fly from the Serengeti straight to Zanzibar and finish with four relaxed days by the sea.
It is a private trip, so the vehicle, the guide and the pace are yours. We choose lodges with family rooms or connecting rooms where we can, and plan the days so that younger travellers are not in the car for too long without a break.

Why Families and Friends Choose It
- Your own private vehicle and guide for the whole safari
- Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and two nights in the central Serengeti
- No long drive back: you fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar
- Four nights on a Zanzibar beach, half board
- Mid-range lodges, with family or connecting rooms where available

Your driver-guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drives you about an hour to your lodge near Arusha. The rest of the day is free to rest after the flight. In the evening your guide joins you to talk through the days ahead.
Overnight: Lodge near Arusha
Meals: Dinner
After breakfast you drive about two hours to Tarangire. The park is known for its elephant families, which are largest in the dry season, and for the old baobab trees on its plains. You spend the day on game drives with a picnic lunch, and reach your lodge near the park in the late afternoon.

Overnight: Lodge or tented camp near Tarangire
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A shorter travel day. You can take an early game drive in Tarangire before driving through Mto wa Mbu and up the Rift Valley escarpment to Karatu, a green farming town below the Ngorongoro Crater. Arriving in the afternoon leaves time to rest, swim if your lodge has a pool, or visit a local coffee farm or village at extra cost.
Overnight: Lodge in Karatu or near the Ngorongoro Crater
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
You go down into the crater early, when the light is soft and there are fewer vehicles. Buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and lions are seen on most days, and the crater is one of the best places in Tanzania to look for black rhino, usually at a distance.
After a picnic lunch you climb out of the crater and drive west across the plains into the Serengeti, with a game drive on the way to your camp in the centre of the park. It is a long day, with breaks along the way.

Overnight: Tented camp or lodge in the central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A whole day in the Serengeti. The central area around Seronera has lions, leopards and cheetahs all year, and the plains stretch as far as you can see. Your guide plans the game drives with you: an early start and a long lunch at camp, or a picnic and a full day out.
If you would like a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the plains, we can add one at extra cost, about 599 US dollars per person; balloon companies set their own minimum age for children.

Overnight: Tented camp or lodge in the central Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a last morning game drive your guide takes you to the Seronera airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar. It is a small scheduled plane that usually stops on the way, so the trip takes a few hours.
Our driver meets you at Zanzibar Airport and takes you to your beach hotel on the island's north coast.
Overnight: Beach hotel, Nungwi or Kendwa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Three free days by the sea. The north coast of Zanzibar has white sand and clear water, and the sea stays good for swimming for more of the day than on the east coast, where the tide goes far out.
If you want to see more of the island, we can arrange a spice farm tour, a walk through Stone Town or a snorkelling trip at extra cost.

Overnight: Beach hotel, Nungwi or Kendwa
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
After breakfast you are driven back to Zanzibar Airport for your flight home.
Meals: Breakfast

Questions Travellers Ask
Is this trip good for children?
Yes, for most families. The safari days are planned with breaks, the beach days are relaxed, and the vehicle is yours, so you set the pace. Some lodges, camps and activities have minimum ages, so tell us the ages of your children and we will choose suitable places.
Can we change the plan?
Yes. It is a private trip, so we can add nights, swap a park, change the order or choose a different beach. Tell us what you have in mind and we will send you a new plan and price.
How do we get from the Serengeti to Zanzibar?
By a small scheduled plane from the Seronera airstrip. It usually stops once or twice on the way. Pack in a soft bag of about 15 kg each; we can keep extra luggage for you.
When is the best time to go?
June to October and late December to February are drier, both on safari and on Zanzibar. April and May bring the long rains; some lodges close then and others offer lower rates.
Is the price per person or per group?
Per person sharing, for the number of people travelling together. For example, a family of four pays $3,590 per person, $14,360 in total. For one traveller the price is on request.
